In the US, we have soccer and hockey moms, and here in Germany, we have handball moms (and dads) too! Alex played in his first tournament; his team, HC Erlangen Tigers, won two games and lost one.
I had heard of this sport just a few times before moving to germany and have now seen it a bit on TV. It seems to me like a sort of combination between basketball and soccer?
Hi Handball Mom in Erlangen...this is Handballmom in Ismaning. My daughter has been playing TeamHandball for 8 years now and I naturally supported her from the beginning and have become quite the Handball junkie myself now. Us parents play Eltern Handball now and again, taught alot of those loudmouth dads always hollering down just how difficult it is on court. I suggested a Mother/Dauther end of seaon game years ago...it has quite evolved and has helped the kids...they got to yell as us for a change! It is good fun. My late husband played for VfL Guenzbuerg back in the 80's-long before I met him. It was only after he died in the US and kiddo&I returned back to Munich, she started playing here (we returned from US thinking schools were better here-another story another time) to basically cover a Hort time laspe on Friday afternoons-she statred playing handball. Well-she then excelled and now plays up to the BHV and DHB... and now EVEN the Ami's are playing!!!!! There is a www.TeamUSAHandball.org wave on...they are fantastic and are looking for kids like yours with US and German citizenship to get on board. Check out the website... Kiddo has made the Jr. USA N'tl team and spent a week at the Olympic training camp in Colorado Springs last summer. They are even talking scholarships etc. It's time to get on board. Good luck...
